Regional trade agreements, globalization, and global maize exports

Globalisation is also having a profound impact on international agricultural trade. This study examines the of regional trade agreements (RTAs) and globalization maize using gravity model for period 1996-2020. The results show that, despite globalization, distance has larger negative bilateral than manufacturing sector. It appears that remains an important factor in explaining flows commodity markets, including maize. Our findings role RTAs are line with previous studies: generally preceded by strengthening relations. There mutually positive feedback between level RTA membership. However, establishment common membership its trade-stimulating effects not immediately visible.
